I not a a health expert. I just wanted to know if the american health system is so awful. It's just that you read that all those awful things
about american medicare but mabye they see things more clearly. I live in Montreal Quebec and I had the worst experience with medical professionals because of some bigotry that I experienced. Which was really strange for a modern city. I wonder what the American would do if it happenned to them...I wish CNN would do more reports
on americans and canadians with disabilities and how doctors and nurses take advantadge of them, which is a strange discrimination. I would rather hear about a doctor with a disability. If anyone feels the same way please let me know.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

Tip for coffee lovers: After coffee, have a piece of dark chocolate.

Cocoa stops the bad effects of coffee. It stops and prevents the jitters.
You remain alert and feel calm.

The jitters could be caused by the acids in coffee, not the caffeine.
Cocoa (alkaline) is the only food that neutralizes the acidity of coffee,
and other acidic foods and spices.
If coffee keeps you awake: before bed, have some chocolate or hot chocolate.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

Nope, not entirely true. Large enough doses of caffeine are still a diuretic. (large = ~5 cups of coffee a day)

J Ren Nutr. 2007 Jul;17(4):225-34.
Caffeine and the kidney: what evidence right now?
Bolignano D, Coppolino G, Barillà A, Campo S, Criseo M, Tripodo D, Buemi M.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

There could be something to it. Black coffee neutralizes the alkaline chemical additives in tobacco. For medicinal use, it is best to use black coffee because milk and sugar alter the acidity of coffee.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

I'd like to point out as a non-coffee drinker that people will exert much energy to show that a personal vice is actually a virtue if just the right perspective is used.

The reality is that coffee drinking is an addiction. If a 3-cups-a-day person stopped suddenly, the withdrawal symptoms would be brutal -- and that is NOT a positive thing. Oxycontin would probably make everyone happier as well -- a seemingly positive thing -- but it's still an addiction.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

welllll some days seem like another was sneaked in there.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

Yep, it's healthy.
This claim was disproven several years ago. The original study that concluded that was based on an extremely limited number of people (<50) and was done nearly 100 years ago. Coffee has been shown to hyrdate the body almost as well as straight water.

>"The caffeine found in coffee can stay in your system for up to 12 hours, making it more difficult to fall asleep,"

I drink 2 cups of coffee everynight 1 hour before going to sleep and I do not have insomnia.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

Remember the atkins Diet? I went to a Modest Mouse concert at the Melkweg theatre in Amsterdamm. I myself am 6 ft 1, and I am not joking when I say I felt short compared to the locals, Girls and Guys on average were 5 in taller than me. It was ridiculous, so yes they are taller than us. We don't all have the luck of coming from vikings.

Re: Coffee: Is it healthier than you think?

The study does not contradict itself. That's great! Because studies have shown that 100% of Americans either drink coffee or don't drink coffee, and 1% falls outside of the category (with a 1% margin of error).
