why are people saying he commited suicide? On BBS it days that he tried autoerotic axphyxiation and he messed up! He was a tortured genius that didn't felt like living up to the consequences of his actions so he took the coward's way out. Kevin Mitnick, Ehud Tennembaum, even Jon Johansen had the chutzpah to face the music but he didn't.End of story!

Part of civil disobedience is to expect to pay the penalty for any laws broken. Where's the social impact of being civilly disobedient if nobody expects you to be arrested or charged? How is it going to force any change if you only do things where they're expected to give you a pass for it anyway?

Even if hell does exist (News flash: It doesn't!), then I'd say you're more likely to go, just for the intolerance you show towards other human beings, than a person who commits suicide is.

If your "God" has something to say, then he should come down and say it. Instead, he's going to be the same deadbeat deity he's always been.

Any medical examiner worth his salt can tell you whether a person died of simple suffocation or hanging. A properly hanged person typically breaks their neck when the rope catches and that is how they die. It is not because of lack of oxygen.

Anonymous members should be treated like the terrorists they are. I feel bad that this kid committed suicide but what Anonymous is doing "in his memory" is absolutely disgusting and a spit in the face to his family.

Know an Anonymous member? Do yourself a favor and report that person to the FBI. That's what I do. I hunt these terrorists every day and I have turned over more than 20 already.

For all of you who keep saying "He made his own bed", try researching more.

Aaron Schwartz basically automated downloading an archive of documents that he had subscribed to. JSTOR, the source of these documents, did NOT want to press charges, but because breaking a website's terms of service is - due to some outdated and poorly made law - a felony, he was prone to getting charged with a felony that people hardly EVER get hit with.

That means if you have ever broken a website's rule - no matter what that rule is- and you agreed to said websites terms of service: YOU TOO, COULD BE CHARGED WITH WHAT HE WAS CHARGED WITH.

Essentially, I could make a website and state in my terms of service "You are prohibited from download anything from the link labeled 'Downloadable Files'", and try to have you hit with a felony, if you do. Yes, you could be hit with a felony for breaking an online, personal contract; something that should be settled in claims court, between the parties involved and not the federal government.

To summarize: No one EVER gets charged for breaking a websites terms of service, because the government could care less if you break a personal contract with a website owner, but you could.
This man helped bring the world's eyes upon bills like PIPA and CISPA, bills that were dangerously close to being passed under the radar. Bills that would grant more power to the same type of people who tried to charge someone with 35 years, for downloading too many documents. Someone, who - coincidentally - was fighting against that very same thing.
If you don't find it odd that they took any possible opening to stick it to the one person who was making progress in fighting unconstitutional legislation, regarding our digital freedoms, then you are blind.

LOL ironic the guy who broke into computers and stole $1.5 million did an internship on ETHICS! I fail to see how his crime was victimless. He BROKE INTO a computer system and STOLE documents. sad to see the guy die, especially in such a cowardly manner, but if you can't do the time...

So or so, an issue of anything online is costs. Not every server holder has an income as facebook and co. (for the purpose of public servers). Thus, if the servers of a public institute are insufficient then making it better usually comes with additional costs.

And even tho i agree with better access to stuff and myself would reasonably pay for access to online library, probably to many matters the issues of national security and things, such as that even a reportage e.g. about the military is probably bound by sort of restrictions ond overview.

Nevertheless, any e-library, technically written/visual, audio, and audiovisual, can surely be subsituted by P2P networking, that is site which aggregates only legally shareable stuff tho with the need of users contributing weeding out, respectivly to stamping the stuff ok to share, which would also help to outline the "no-go" areas.
